Panathinaikos Part Ways with Rafael Benitez After Disappointing Finish

Panathinaikos have officially announced the departure of head coach Rafael Benitez, bringing an end to the Spaniard’s short spell in charge of the Greek giants.
The former Liverpool, Real Madrid and Newcastle United manager took over in Athens on 24 October last year, arriving with high expectations and vast European experience. However, despite moments of promise, Benitez was unable to guide Panathinaikos to a strong finish in the Greek Super League.
During his time at the club, the experienced tactician oversaw 41 matches, recording 20 victories, 11 draws and 10 defeats across all competitions.
The decisive factor behind the managerial change appears to be the club’s disappointing performance in the championship play-off round, where Panathinaikos finished bottom of the four-team title group.
