The second round of the Premier League brought more frustration for Liverpool supporters. Just as they did in their opening-day 2-2 draw with Newcastle United, the Reds once again had to fight back to avoid defeat, this time against Nottingham Forest.

The visitors looked remarkably comfortable at Anfield in the early stages, playing with the confidence of the home side. It was therefore no surprise when Nottingham Forest broke the deadlock. In the middle of the first half, Dan Ndoye latched on to a pass from Morgan Gibbs-White and unleashed a powerful strike beyond Alisson.

Liverpool thought they had levelled in the 32nd minute, but Florian Wirtz's effort was ruled out for offside against Jeremie Frimpong. The equaliser eventually arrived in the 60th minute when Cody Gakpo delivered a superb cross to the far post, where Alexander Isak finished into an empty corner.

However, Liverpool's defensive problems refused to disappear. The Reds' back line lost track of their opponents, forcing Alisson into a foul inside the penalty area. Gibbs-White stepped up from the spot and made no mistake, leaving the Brazilian goalkeeper with no chance.

Yet, just as against Newcastle United, Liverpool found a way back into the game. In the 82nd minute, Wirtz provided the assist and new signing Matheus Cunha scored his second goal for the Reds to make it 2-2.
