Botafogo Eyes Successor for Arthur Jorge – Benítez, Martino, and Matos Among Candidates
Following their triumph in the Brazilian championship, Botafogo has made the surprising decision to part ways with head coach Arthur Jorge. The club's management is now actively seeking a replacement to lead the team in the upcoming season.
According to Marca, Botafogo's owner, John Textor, has compiled a shortlist of potential candidates. The list reportedly includes experienced coaches such as Rafael Benítez, Gerardo Martino, and Vasco Matos.
Both Benítez and Martino are currently free agents. Benítez, who departed from Celta Vigo in 2024, was previously linked with the Belgium national team job, but the position ultimately went to Rudi Garcia. Meanwhile, Martino's most recent managerial role was in the MLS, where he coached Inter Miami.
The third candidate, Portuguese tactician Vasco Matos, is currently under contract with Santa Clara, a club that sits in fifth place in the Primeira Liga. His potential departure would require negotiations between the two clubs.
Botafogo's management is expected to make a final decision soon, as they aim to build on their recent success and compete at the highest level in both domestic and international competitions.
