Wolverhampton Shock Liverpool in Dramatic Stoppage-Time Twist

Wolverhampton - Liverpool 2:1

At Molineux, struggling Wolverhampton Wanderers produced another seismic upset, defeating Liverpool in stoppage time to claim back-to-back statement victories.

For Arne Slot and his side, it was a missed opportunity of real consequence. A win would have propelled Liverpool firmly into the top-four conversation. Instead, they were undone by Wolves’ tactical discipline, ruthless counter-attacking and a slice of chaotic fortune at the death.

The decisive action unfolded in the final stages. In the 78th minute, Rodrigo Gomes capped off a brilliantly executed counter-attack, slicing through the visitors’ defensive structure before calmly finishing to send Molineux into raptures.

To their credit, Liverpool responded instantly. Mohamed Salah, ever the talisman, punished a costly error from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde to restore parity and seemingly swing momentum back toward the Reds. With the clock ticking down, it felt inevitable that Slot’s men would find a winner.

But football rarely follows the script.

Deep into stoppage time — the fourth added minute — came the moment that stunned the travelling support. A speculative long-range strike from André took a wicked deflection off Joe Gomez, looping awkwardly past a wrong-footed Alisson Becker and into the net.
