Manchester City have officially confirmed that legendary head coach will step down at the end of the current campaign

Manchester City have officially confirmed that legendary head coach Pep Guardiola will step down at the end of the current campaign, bringing an extraordinary era at the club to a close.

During his time at the Etihad, the Spanish manager transformed Manchester City into one of the dominant forces in world football, winning 15 major trophies — including six Premier League titles and the club’s historic first UEFA Champions League crown.

The 55-year-old’s final match in charge of the “Citizens” is set to take place against Aston Villa on Sunday, May 24, in what promises to be an emotional farewell for one of football’s greatest modern managers.

Speaking during Thursday’s press conference, Guardiola addressed the decision to leave:

"Don't ask me the reasons I'm leaving," said Guardiola. "There is no reason, but deep inside, I know it's my time. Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City."

Although stepping away from his role as head coach, Pep Guardiola will remain connected to the wider City Football Group. The club confirmed that he will take on the position of global ambassador, where he will provide technical guidance to clubs within the CFG network, contribute to strategic football projects and support international development initiatives.

Attention is already turning toward Guardiola’s successor, with former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca widely expected to become the next head coach of Manchester City.
