The report, released by local authorities, states that Jota exceeded the speed limit

An official investigation report has confirmed that Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was behind the wheel and was speeding at the time of the tragic accident that claimed his life.

The report, released by local authorities, states that Jota exceeded the speed limit while attempting to overtake another vehicle on a highway near Santander, Spain. It also confirms that the Liverpool and Portugal national team star was driving the vehicle himself.

Jota and his brother were reportedly en route to the port city of Santander, where they intended to board a ferry to the UK. According to sources close to the family, Diogo Jota had recently undergone respiratory surgery, and medical advice strongly recommended that he avoid air travel.

During the journey, while overtaking, the car suffered a catastrophic rear tyre blowout, which caused the vehicle to lose control. The result was a devastating crash that tragically took the lives of two young men, including the 28-year-old footballer.
