Usyk detained at Krakow airport: new details emerge
Oleksandr Usyk was detained at Krakow airport because an airline representative decided that he and his coach were "not fit to fly," ESPN reports, citing an unnamed source.
Usyk explained that they were fine, just exhausted from the almost 14-hour journey from Kyiv.
The Polish media outlet Przeglad Sportowy gives a few more details. It writes that the champion arrived by car from Kyiv to Krakow, from where he was going to fly to a training camp in Spain. However he and his coach were not allowed on board of the plane. Usyk allegedly stated that he would not fly by himself and was against the detention of the coach. As a result, both were detained, promoter Andrzej Wasilewski told the publication.
According to the source, Usyk, his coach and wife were flying to Valencia, where the boxer was to start preparing for a rematch with Tyson Fury.
