Injury to Romelu Lukaku Forces Napoli into Striker Hunt
Napoli’s dream Belgian duo — Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku — has been put on hold, as the powerful striker has suffered a thigh injury that will sideline him for several weeks.
Lukaku picked up the knock during a 2-0 friendly win over Olympiacos on August 14. While the exact diagnosis has not been made public, reports suggest the injury is serious enough to push Napoli back into the transfer market in search of a short-term solution — or perhaps something more long-term.
According to Corriere dello Sport, one of the leading names on the club’s radar is Ukrainian international Artem Dovbyk, currently playing for AS Roma. Dovbyk’s physical style and tactical profile are seen as a strong fit for the role vacated by Lukaku.
Other potential targets include Joshua Zirkzee, recently signed by Manchester United, Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace, and Nikola Krstović from Lecce.
