The summer transfer window is in full swing

The summer transfer window is in full swing, and spending across Europe’s top divisions shows no sign of slowing down. Big-money moves continue to dominate the headlines, and according to the latest data from Swiss research group CIES Football Observatory, the Premier League is once again leading the charge.

From June 1 to August 18, clubs in the English Premier League have already spent an eye-watering €2.4 billion — a 23% increase compared to the same period last summer. And with several major deals still under negotiation, the final total is expected to climb even higher before the window slams shut.

Here's the full breakdown of the top 10 leagues by transfer expenditure so far this summer:

Top 10 Leagues by Transfer Spending (June 1 – August 18)
1. Premier League – €2.4 billion
2. Serie A – €911 million
3. Bundesliga – €597 million
4. La Liga – €519 million
5. Ligue 1 – €477 million
6. Saudi Pro League – €430 million
7. Primeira Liga (Portugal) – €261 million
8. Turkish Süper Lig – €207 million
9. Eredivisie – €187 million
10. Brasileirão (Serie A Brazil) – €156 million

While the Premier League's financial dominance is hardly new, the gap between England and the rest of Europe continues to widen. Serie A, the next closest league, has spent less than 40% of what Premier League clubs have committed this summer.
