Arsenal have opened the new season in spectacular fashion, sweeping aside Manchester City 3-0 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff to lift the FA Community Shield. The Premier League champions produced a commanding display against the FA Cup holders, sending an early warning to their domestic rivals.

The game could hardly have started better for Arsenal. Just 23 seconds after kick-off, Riccardo Calafiori struck to put the Gunners in front and give Manchester City an immediate mountain to climb.

Kai Havertz doubled the advantage in the 28th minute, rising highest to head home and send Arsenal into the break with a comfortable two-goal lead. The London side continued to control the contest after half-time, and Martin Ødegaard added a third early in the second period to complete a convincing victory.
