Brighton Make History with First-Ever Away Victory at City’s Stadium

Brighton & Hove Albion claimed a historic 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, recording their first-ever win at the home of the Premier League champions. Yasin Ayari scored the decisive goal in a result that could have major implications for the title race.
The meeting between two of the league’s most prolific sides began with a stunning early breakthrough for the visitors. In the 11th minute, Diego Gomez drove down the right flank and sent a low ball across the face of goal. Maxim De Cuyper picked it up at the far post before laying it off for Ayari, who finished from close range. The strike was the Swedish midfielder’s third goal of the season.
Manchester City responded by searching for an immediate equaliser. In the 21st minute, Iliman Ndiaye missed a promising opportunity, heading wide after a delivery from Elliot Anderson. The Senegalese forward later found himself in another dangerous position, but this time he was denied by Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
Lewis Dunk also played a crucial role in keeping City at bay, producing two important blocks to prevent Erling Haaland from finding the net and extending his scoring run.
Brighton had a golden opportunity to double their lead shortly after the restart. Ayari beat the offside trap and played in Gomez, who spotted De Cuyper unmarked at the far post. However, the Belgian fired over from close range, letting City off the hook.
Verbruggen was soon called into action again, producing an important save to keep out Ndiaye’s effort aimed towards the top corner. He later dealt with a strike from Matheus Nunes, while Dunk and his defensive colleagues continued to frustrate Haaland with a series of determined blocks.
As the second half wore on, Manchester City increased the pressure in search of an equaliser. But Brighton defended with remarkable commitment across the pitch, refusing to give the hosts the space they needed to turn the game around.
The final whistle confirmed a memorable victory for Brighton, who left the Etihad with all three points after a disciplined defensive performance and a clinical finish from Ayari.
