St. Pauli is no stranger to taking bold stands

German club St. Pauli has officially left X (formerly Twitter), citing concerns over the platform’s direction under owner Elon Musk. The decision, announced in a strongly worded statement, reflected the club’s broader political stance.

2024-25 Bundesliga: Standings

"Under Elon Musk’s ownership, what was once a platform for debate has become an amplifier of hate, with potential influence on the upcoming Bundestag election campaign," the statement read.

The club further alleged that Musk previously used the platform to support Donald Trump during his U.S. presidential campaign. "It is reasonable to assume that X is also promoting authoritarian, inhumane, and far-right content in the context of the Bundestag elections, thereby manipulating public opinion," the statement continued.

St. Pauli, known for its progressive values and outspoken political activism, is no stranger to taking bold stands. However, this move to exit X represents a significant step in the club's commitment to aligning its actions with its principles.

On the pitch, St. Pauli is struggling this season, currently sitting 16th in the Bundesliga table after 10 matches. While their form may be a concern, their off-field decisions continue to underscore the club's unique identity in the world of football.
