Borussia Dortmund missed a prime opportunity to climb into second place in the Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund missed a prime opportunity to climb into second place in the Bundesliga, settling for a frustrating 1–1 draw away to SC Freiburg in Round 14 after playing much of the second half with ten men.

A win would have seen Dortmund leapfrog RB Leipzig in the table, but their own indiscipline proved decisive. Despite a strong first-half display, the visitors were ultimately made to pay for a moment that changed the entire flow of the contest.

Dortmund took the lead in the 31st minute when Ramy Bensebaini finished confidently to put the Black and Yellows in control. At that stage, the game appeared to be firmly heading in their direction.

However, the turning point arrived early in the second half. Young midfielder Jobe Bellingham was shown a straight red card, leaving Borussia Dortmund to defend their advantage with a numerical disadvantage.

Under sustained pressure, the visitors eventually cracked. In the 75th minute, Lucas Höler found the equaliser for SC Freiburg, restoring parity and sparking celebrations among the home supporters.

The draw sees Borussia Dortmund draw level on points with RB Leipzig, but they remain in third place due to goal difference — a bittersweet outcome given what was at stake.
