Manchester City began their European campaign in confident fashion, beating Porto 2-0 away from home in their opening Champions League fixture. The difference-maker was once again Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, who delivered a clinical performance in front of goal.

Haaland opened the scoring with a precise header into the far corner before completing his brace with a cool finish past the goalkeeper. The two goals took his tally to an astonishing 35 goals in his first 40 appearances for the club in Europe's premier competition.

Manchester City controlled the game almost from start to finish at the Portuguese stadium. Diogo Costa produced several outstanding saves in the opening half, denying attempts from Phil Foden, Antoine Semenyo and Haaland as Porto struggled to cope with the visitors' attacking pressure.
