Inter Milan suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 Serie A season, falling 1–2 at home to a resolute Udinese side in a dramatic third-round clash at the San Siro.

The hosts got off to a strong start when Denzel Dumfries opened the scoring, finishing off a well-worked move to give Inter an early lead. However, the Dutchman quickly went from hero to villain, as a handball inside the box led to a VAR-reviewed penalty. Festy Ebosele Davis stepped up and coolly converted to draw Udinese level.

Moments later, Udinese struck again. In the 40th minute, young forward Christian Atta slotted home from close range, completing the visitors’ stunning first-half comeback.

VAR Denies Inter a Late Equaliser

Inter came out aggressive in the second half, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. They thought they had found it when Federico Dimarco scored midway through the half — but the goal was ruled out by VAR for an offside in the buildup involving Marcus Thuram.

Manager Cristian Chivu threw everything at the match in the final minutes, sending on four attacking players including debutant Pio Esposito and the promising Jacopo Bonny. But despite the late flurry of chances, Udinese held firm and left Milan with a deserved three points.
