Benfica have officially announced a major managerial reshuffle, confirming the departure of Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid in a deal worth €15 million.

The Lisbon giants released a statement revealing that the Portuguese tactician had agreed to the move, bringing an end to his spell at the club and paving the way for a high-profile return.

“Benfica announces the transfer of Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid for a fee of €15 million, with the coach having given his consent to the move,” the club said in an official statement.

Shortly after confirming Mourinho’s exit, Benfica unveiled his successor, announcing the appointment of Marco Silva on a two-year contract with an option to extend his stay until the end of the 2028/29 season.

The 48-year-old Portuguese manager arrives in Lisbon after a successful spell with Fulham, whom he had been in charge of since 2021.
