Paris Saint-Germain suffered a painful reality check

Paris Saint-Germain suffered a painful reality check just days before their crucial UEFA Champions League showdown with Chelsea. In a surprising Ligue 1 upset, the Parisians were beaten 3–1 at home by an in-form AS Monaco, marking their first league defeat at Parc des Princes this season.

The result has tightened the title race considerably. Luis Enrique’s side remain top of Ligue 1, but their lead is now under pressure, with RC Lens capable of closing the gap to just one point depending on upcoming results.

AS Monaco set the tone early with relentless pressing that repeatedly unsettled the PSG back line. The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Maghnes Akliouche capitalised on a costly mistake from Warren Zaïre-Emery inside his own penalty area, calmly slotting home to silence the home crowd.

The visitors doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Substitute Aleksandr Golovin made an instant impact, scoring with his very first touch after coming off the bench to make it 2–0 and further frustrate the hosts.

Paris Saint-Germain briefly reignited hope in the 71st minute when Bradley Barcola pulled one back with a sharp finish. But the comeback lasted barely two minutes. Folarin Balogun quickly restored Monaco’s two-goal cushion, sealing a famous away victory.

Luis Enrique attempted to change the momentum by introducing Ousmane Dembélé, yet AS Monaco held firm and nearly added a fourth late on, striking the crossbar in the closing stages.
