West Ham sack Lopetegui and prepare to appoint Potter
West Ham fired head coach Julen Lopetegui just six months after his appointment.
The Spaniard officially took up his duties on 1 July. During Lopetegui's tenure, the Hammers won only six matches in the English Premier League. Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City was their ninth in 20 games this season and left the club in 14th place in the standings.
A West Ham statement said: 'The first half of the 2024-25 season has not aligned with the club's ambitions, and the club has therefore taken action in line with its objectives. The board would like to thank Julen and his staff for their hard work during their time with the Hammers and wish them every success for the future."
According to the English press, West Ham have already held talks with former Chelsea and Brighton coach Graham Potter to take charge of the team on a short-term deal.
