Oliver Kahn

Oliver Kahn, the legendary former Bayern Munich goalkeeper, is reportedly on the verge of purchasing French football club Girondins de Bordeaux. Currently languishing in France’s fourth division, Bordeaux could finally find stability under Kahn’s stewardship, according to Sud Ouest.

The initiative was spearheaded by former Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud, who approached current Bordeaux owner Gérard Lopez with a proposal to sell the club. Initial talks between the two parties have been positive, and Eyraud is acting on behalf of Kahn, who has expressed a strong desire to revive Bordeaux and restore its former glory.

Bordeaux’s golden era came in the 1980s under the management of the iconic Aimé Jacquet. The team, featuring stars like Alain Giresse, Jean Tigana, Marius Trésor, and Bernard Lacombe, dominated French football, winning three league titles and two Coupe de France trophies in just five years. They also reached the semifinals of the European Cup, cementing their status as a powerhouse of the time.

If the deal goes through, Kahn’s ambitious plans could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Bordeaux, aiming to bring the club back to prominence both domestically and in Europe.
