Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called for resilience and faith in his team’s style of play following their 2-0 defeat to Juventus in a critical UEFA Champions League clash. Despite the result, Guardiola emphasized his unwavering belief in his squad and their approach to the game.

Guardiola Reflects on the Defeat

Speaking after the match in Turin, Guardiola dismissed the notion that defensive errors were the main reason for the loss. "I don’t think it was defensive mistakes much [that caused the defeat]. That was not the reason," he explained. "We missed the last pass, arriving in the six-yard box or penalty spot many times. That was the difference today."

Despite the setback, Guardiola reiterated his admiration for his players and their style of play. "We are the best, I love my team, the way we play, and this result is not going to convince me otherwise," he stated confidently.

No Excuses, Only Determination

Guardiola also took responsibility for the team’s struggles while maintaining his trust in their ability to bounce back. "I analyse, use it, what happens in the results. Of course, I question myself, in the good moments, in the bad moments. I was stable in the good moments; I was stable in the bad moments. I try to find the way, find the win."

He acknowledged Juventus' strength and offered congratulations to their opponents: "Juve are a great team, and I wish them all the best. I congratulate them on their victory; the future belongs to them."

Belief in the System

While the defeat extends a difficult run for Manchester City, Guardiola insisted that the team’s philosophy will eventually yield success. "It’s a bad time for us, we’re struggling, but our way of playing will save us; it will bring us victories. We have to insist; there are no excuses now because we haven’t won in so many games."

In the UEFA Champions League standings, Manchester City has dropped to 22nd place, just one point ahead of PSG, who are currently outside the playoff zone. In the next round, these teams will face each other in Paris. In their final match, the Citizens will host Club Brugge at home.
