Mo Salah scored again

Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Anfield in a crucial Premier League clash, with the win allowing Arne Slot’s men to leapfrog Manchester City and reclaim the top spot.

Premier League 2024/2025: Results & Standings

Liverpool started the game energetically but gradually allowed Chelsea to take control. Although the Londoners couldn't fully capitalize on their possession, they did dominate the ball and limited the hosts' attacking opportunities. Just as the match seemed to be lacking chances, a foul on Curtis Jones in the 29th minute led to a penalty for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah calmly converted the resulting penalty, firing past Robert Sánchez to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead.

Chelsea’s best opportunity of the first half came from Cole Palmer, whose effort from inside the box sailed just over the crossbar. Liverpool, on the other hand, had a chance to extend their lead, but a second penalty was overturned after a VAR review.

The second half saw quick-fire action from both sides. Chelsea equalized early on when Moisés Caicedo delivered a perfect through ball to Nicolas Jackson, who finished clinically past the goalkeeper. Initially flagged offside, the goal stood after VAR’s intervention confirmed Jackson was onside.

However, Liverpool quickly regained the lead. Just three minutes later, Salah found Jones inside the box, and the midfielder made no mistake, slotting home to secure the 2-1 win for Liverpool.

With this victory, Liverpool once again find themselves at the summit of the Premier League.
