Atletico Madrid - Girona 1:0

Atlético Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Girona at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in a match dominated by emotion and significance for the home supporters.

The evening’s main storyline was the farewell appearance of Antoine Griezmann, who played his 500th and final match for Atlético Madrid before his expected departure from the club. The French forward received a memorable send-off from the Madrid crowd in what became a fitting conclusion to one of the most iconic careers in the club’s modern history.

For Girona, Ukrainian international Viktor Tsygankov completed the full 90 minutes, but the winger was unable to inspire the visitors to a result that could have boosted their survival hopes in La Liga.

Despite enjoying more possession throughout the contest, the Catalan side lacked precision in the final third. Bryan Gil wasted a golden opportunity after firing wide, while Atlético responded with Dávid Hancko striking the crossbar during a dangerous attacking spell.

The decisive moment arrived in the 20th minute when Antoine Griezmann produced one final moment of quality, delivering the assist for Ademola Lookman, who calmly finished to score the only goal of the match.

After the break, Girona pushed for an equaliser and came close through Azzedine Ounahi, but Jan Oblak produced an important save to preserve Atlético’s advantage.
