A new manager has done little to change Newcastle United's fortunes so far. The Magpies remain a long way from looking like a genuine top side, and their latest performance offered another stark reminder of just how much work lies ahead.

At home, Leeds United dismantled Newcastle United with remarkable ease. At times, the gap between the two teams looked so significant that it was difficult to believe they were competing in the same division.

The Peacocks dominated virtually every aspect of the game, controlling the tempo and creating chances while calmly turning their superiority into goals. Leeds never looked like a side willing to let their advantage slip.

And the nightmare for Newcastle began in the worst possible fashion. Their own defence effectively gifted Leeds United the opening goal with an unfortunate own goal, setting the tone for what would become a thoroughly one-sided contest.
