Kairat - Real 0:5

It was a night of high emotion and historic significance in Almaty, as Kairat hosted their first-ever home match in the UEFA Champions League. And while the result — a commanding 5–0 victory for Real Madrid — was never truly in doubt, the experience will be remembered for years by fans who witnessed football royalty live in Kazakhstan.

All the pre-match talk surrounded Real Madrid’s need to bounce back after their stinging defeat in the Madrid derby. Meanwhile, Kairat had captured the hearts of local supporters, with ticket demand and media buzz reaching unprecedented levels for Kazakh football.

Bright Start, but Class Tells

To their credit, Kairat were not overwhelmed by the occasion. Incredibly, they nearly took the lead after just 11 seconds — Satpayev found himself unmarked in the box and got his head to a cross, but his weak effort was calmly gathered by Thibaut Courtois.

For the first 15 minutes, the underdogs matched Real Madrid in intensity, and arguably outshone them in desire. But class eventually prevailed. A dreadful defensive error — a blind backpass under pressure — forced a panicked challenge from the goalkeeper, bringing down Mastantuono in the box. The referee had no hesitation, pointing to the spot.

Kylian Mbappé stepped up and calmly slotted home the opener — his first of the night.

Second Half Masterclass

The first half ended with just that solitary goal, but Real Madrid returned from the break with ruthless intent. In the 52nd minute, Courtois launched a pinpoint long ball from his area, sending Mbappé clean through on goal. The Frenchman did what he does best — clinical, composed, unstoppable. 2–0.

Kairat thought they had a lifeline midway through the second half when the referee awarded a penalty for a foul on Gromyko. However, a quick VAR check showed Dani Ceballos made no contact — rather, Gromyko appeared to be seeking it. The decision was overturned.

Minutes later, it was 3–0 — and a hat-trick for Mbappé. After a fluid move, Arda Güler teed him up on the edge of the box, and the World Cup winner hammered home with devastating power.

Real Run Riot, Kairat Held Scoreless

From then on, it became a matter of damage control — and stat-padding. Kairat fought valiantly but couldn’t break through the Spanish defence, nor breach the goal of the towering Courtois.

In the 82nd minute, Rodrygo whipped in a delicate cross from the left, and Eduardo Camavinga rose above the keeper to nod home goal number four.

The final blow came just before the whistle, as Brahim Díaz cut in from the right and curled a composed finish into the far bottom corner. A beautiful strike to cap off a five-star performance from the 14-time Champions League winners.
