Paris Saint-Germain Win UEFA Super Cup After Dramatic Comeback and Penalty Shootout

Paris Saint-Germain have claimed the UEFA Super Cup title in thrilling fashion, overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.

Despite being favourites heading into the match, Luis Enrique’s side were second-best for large spells and came dangerously close to letting another major final slip away—mirroring their chaotic display against Chelsea in last season’s FIFA Club World Cup final.

Tottenham Take Control Early

Spurs were dominant for 75 minutes and opened the scoring in the 39th minute from a well-rehearsed set piece. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario launched a precise long ball, which eventually led to Micky van de Ven finding the net on the rebound after Palhinha's initial strike was parried onto the crossbar by Lucas Chevalier.

Early in the second half, Cristian Romero doubled the lead with a header following another set-piece—this time capitalising on a misjudgement by PSG’s keeper. At 2-0, and with PSG showing little attacking intent, the trophy looked bound for North London.

Luis Enrique's Substitutes Spark PSG Revival

But the French champions came alive late on. In the 85th minute, substitute Lee Kang-in rifled a powerful effort from outside the box after a short corner routine, reigniting belief among the Parisians. Then, deep into stoppage time, Ousmane Dembélé burst down the right flank and squared for Gonçalo Ramos, who beat his marker to poke the ball past Vicario and force penalties.

Penalty Shootout Drama

PSG looked shaky at first, with Vitinha missing their opening spot-kick. But Chevalier responded by saving van de Ven’s attempt, and Mathys Tel then missed for Spurs. That opened the door for PSG, and Nuno Mendes coolly converted the decisive penalty to secure the victory.
