AC Milan - Sassuolo 2:2

AC Milan missed a golden opportunity to strengthen their grip at the top of Serie A after being held to a dramatic 2–2 draw by Sassuolo in Round 15 at San Siro.

The Rossoneri went into the clash knowing a win would help them maintain control of the title race, and for long spells it looked as though the plan was working. However, a late equaliser shattered those ambitions and left the home crowd frustrated.

It was Sassuolo who struck first, silencing San Siro in the 13th minute when Kone put the visitors ahead. AC Milan responded with growing authority and were rewarded in the 34th minute as Davide Bartesaghi finished confidently following an assist from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Momentum swung firmly in Milan’s favour straight after the break. Bartesaghi struck again to complete his brace, this time supplied by Christopher Nkunku, and the hosts appeared to be cruising towards another vital three points.

But football rarely follows a script. In the 77th minute, Armand Laurienté found space and levelled the score for Sassuolo, punishing Milan’s lapse in concentration and turning the match on its head.

AC Milan remain top of the Serie A table for now, but the draw could prove costly. Victories for Napoli and Inter in their upcoming fixtures would see the Rossoneri drop from first to third.
