The first Serie A match to be held outside Italy has sparked major backlash. Como ultras have slammed the decision to take the club’s February 2026 fixture against AC Milan to Perth, Australia, calling it “a betrayal” and insisting that “football belongs to the fans.”
The organised supporters’ group released a strongly worded statement rejecting the move, arguing that the team should not take part in what they described as a commercial stunt detached from the club’s roots.
“Como without its fans is not Como,” the statement read. “Show some dignity and refuse this invitation. Passion cannot be bought. Do not take part in this farce.”
The controversial fixture, intended as a promotional event to expand Serie A’s global reach, has ignited debate in Italy over the growing influence of marketing and foreign expansion on domestic football traditions.
