Porto and Palmeiras played out a 0–0 draw in their opening match of Group A at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, marking the second goalless result of the tournament after Al Ahly and Inter Miami also failed to find the net.

While Portuguese giants — particularly Benfica, Sporting, and Porto — have long been familiar with Brazilian football and its emerging talents, Palmeiras remains one of the South American sides known for holding on to their core players. One of the few exceptions is starlet Estevão, who will join Chelsea after the tournament.

Palmeiras Dominated but Couldn’t Score

The Brazilian club entered the game as favourites and largely lived up to that billing. They dominated possession and had the clearest chances of the first half. Just before the break, Porto's goalkeeper and defenders produced a stunning triple save to deny a late flurry of shots and keep the score level.

After a largely defensive first half, Porto came out stronger in the second period. On 48 minutes, Vieira went close with a low strike towards the far corner, only to be denied by a smart save from Weverton.

Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira responded with several second-half substitutions to inject new energy into the attack. The Brazilian side came closest to scoring in the 83d minute, when Murilo struck the post with a powerful effort, but the deadlock remained.

What’s Next

Palmeiras will face Al Ahly on June 19, while Porto take on Inter Miami later that day in what could prove to be a decisive round in Group A.
