Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini has officially parted ways with the Saudi Arabia national team, stepping down from his role as head coach by mutual agreement. The Italian tactician opened up about the factors that led to his decision, pointing to challenges brought about by the increased presence of foreign players in the Saudi Pro League.

“There are many skilled professionals working within Saudi football," said Mancini. "But the main issue is that the national team lacks the experience needed to play a certain style of football. The influx of foreign players has changed a lot. Local players are no longer getting regular minutes at their clubs, and under these circumstances, I can’t guarantee that we will qualify for the World Cup."

Saudi Arabia is currently navigating Group C in the third round of 2026 World Cup qualification. Despite Mancini’s efforts, the team has collected just five points from four matches, with all three home games ending without a win—two draws and a loss.
