Lens suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sporting CP in the second round of the UEFA Champions League league phase. Despite enjoying a strong start in front of their home supporters at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, the French side failed to turn their early dominance into goals.

Lens created several promising opportunities in the opening stages, with Florian Thauvin and Ivanovic causing problems for the visitors. However, their efforts went unrewarded, while a strike from Franjo rattled the woodwork, summing up a frustrating night for the hosts.

Sporting CP, by contrast, proved far more clinical in front of goal. Luis Suárez broke the deadlock in the first half, giving the Portuguese side a crucial advantage despite Lens’ promising start.

The visitors then sealed the victory after the break. Following a costly error by Lens goalkeeper Risser, Issa Doumbia found the net to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond doubt.
