Lionel Messi could once again pull on the shirt of the club where his football journey began. According to TuttomercatoWeb, Newell’s Old Boys have made significant progress in talks aimed at bringing the Argentine superstar back to Rosario.
The report claims the club have reached a principle agreement with Messi over a potential return starting in 2027. The proposed plan involves a six-month loan spell from January to June 2027, after which the forward would return to Inter Miami, where he is under contract until 2028.
For several years, the main obstacle to such a move has been security concerns — both for the player himself and for his family in Rosario. However, according to the source, the club’s new president Ignacio Boero has taken concrete steps to address the issue.
It is reported that Boero has presented details of the talks with Messi’s representatives to Santa Fe province governor Maximiliano Pullaro, outlining a plan to ensure the required level of protection and stability for the player should the move go ahead.
