Liverpool Slip Up Against Struggling Burnley at Anfield

Liverpool - Burnley 1:1

Liverpool dropped valuable points once again after being held to a frustrating 1–1 draw by relegation-threatened Burnley at Anfield, a result that will sting in the context of the Premier League top-four race.

The home side were in near-total control for long stretches and took a deserved lead in the first half. Florian Wirtz broke the deadlock with a composed finish, capping off sustained pressure from Liverpool. The hosts had a golden chance to put the game beyond doubt when Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up from the penalty spot — but his effort crashed against the crossbar, leaving the door ajar for the visitors.

That miss proved costly. Against the run of play, Burnley found an unlikely lifeline in the 65th minute when Marcus Edwards struck with the visitors’ only shot on target, silencing Anfield and turning the contest on its head.

Liverpool threw everything forward in search of a winner late on. A goal from Hugo Ekitike was ruled out, while Cody Gakpo came agonisingly close, only to see his effort cleared off the line in the dying moments.

Despite the setback, Liverpool remain fourth in the Premier League standings, but the dropped points could yet prove costly as the race tightens.
