Manchester City have once again flexed their financial muscle on the transfer market. According to Alex Crook of talkSPORT, details of Marc Guéhi’s personal contract have emerged — and they explain why no rival, including Liverpool, stood a real chance.

The England international is set to complete a €20 million move from Crystal Palace before the end of the month, strengthening Pep Guardiola’s defensive options. On the surface, the transfer fee looks reasonable. The real difference-maker, however, lies in the player’s salary.

Under the terms of his deal at Manchester City, Marc Guéhi will earn a staggering £15.6 million per year — around €18 million. Those numbers instantly made City the only realistic destination for the Palace captain and defensive leader.
