VAR denies Borussia Mönchengladbach a crucial win against RB Leipzig

Borussia Mönchengladbach were held to a goalless draw by RB Leipzig, but the real drama of the night unfolded around VAR — once again at the heart of a Bundesliga controversy.
The match’s turning point came early in the second half when a seemingly legitimate goal by Frank Honorat was ruled out for a marginal offside in the 47th minute. Later, in the 74th minute, referee decisions took center stage again as a previously awarded penalty to Gladbach was overturned after a lengthy video review.
Head coach Eugen Polanski did not hide his frustration, calling the offside line “highly questionable” and criticizing the prolonged VAR checks, adding that such interruptions “kill the spirit of the sport.” Despite the tension and a flurry of emotional moments, the scoreboard stayed frozen at 0–0 — with VAR once more overshadowing the football itself.
