The decision follows a series of tense discussions between Nuno and club owner

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Nuno Espírito Santo after just three matches into the new Premier League season, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

The decision follows a series of tense discussions between Nuno and club owner Evangelos Marinakis. Last month, the Portuguese manager publicly admitted to a strained relationship with the Greek businessman — a rift that now appears to have reached breaking point.

Ironically, Nuno had only signed a new long-term deal with Forest in June, committing his future to the club until 2028. The extension was seen as a reward for leading the Tricky Trees to an unexpected 7th-place finish last season — their highest since returning to the top flight and one that secured a spot in European competition.

However, the atmosphere quickly shifted. Just weeks after renewing Nuno's contract, Forest appointed former Arsenal sporting director Edu, whose vision for the transfer market clashed sharply with that of the head coach. According to sources close to the club, Marinakis ultimately backed Edu in the internal power struggle, leaving Nuno increasingly isolated.
