Just two games into the new Bundesliga season, alarm bells are already ringing

Erik ten Hag may be regretting his decision to leave Ajax for Manchester United back in 2022 — and his managerial journey is taking another turbulent turn in Germany.

After a disappointing spell at Old Trafford, where he failed to deliver consistent results aside from lifting the FA Cup, ten Hag was dismissed by Manchester United at the end of the 2024/25 season. He was then appointed by Bayer Leverkusen as the man to succeed the club’s former head coach Xabi Alonso — who had famously led Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title just months earlier.

But just two games into the new Bundesliga season, alarm bells are already ringing. Leverkusen have managed just one point from a possible six, and according to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the club’s board is already considering parting ways with the 55-year-old Dutchman.
