Chelsea thrash AC Milan as Club World Cup and Conference League trophies unveiled
Chelsea marked their pre-season clash with AC Milan by presenting the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Europa Conference League trophies in front of a packed home crowd – and followed it up with a dominant 4-1 victory over the Italian giants.
The Blues came out firing, scoring twice in the opening eight minutes. The breakthrough came via an own goal from Milan defender Kubiš, and just moments later, Pedro doubled the lead with a clinical finish. Milan’s evening went from bad to worse when Kubiš was sent off in the 19th minute after a reckless challenge, capping a nightmare first half for the Rossoneri defender.
After the break, all eyes were on veteran midfielder Luka Modrić, who made his first appearance in an AC Milan shirt. However, even the experienced Croatian couldn’t turn the tide for the visitors.
Chelsea's new signing Dilep stole the show in the second half, bagging a brace to put the game beyond reach. Milan managed a late consolation through Fofana, but it did little to soften the blow of a comprehensive defeat.
