The Metropolitano has a rich history of hosting major football events

The Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, home to Atlético Madrid, has been selected as the venue for the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League final. The stadium, formerly known as the Wanda Metropolitano and now sponsored by Riyadh Air, will once again take center stage in European football's most prestigious club competition.

Commenting on UEFA's decision, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Luzán, revealed that the Metropolitano will no longer be a host venue for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Instead, the Nueva Mestalla, the radically modernized stadium of Valencia, will take its place.

The Metropolitano has a rich history of hosting major football events, including the 2019 Champions League final, where Liverpool triumphed over Tottenham. Its state-of-the-art facilities and capacity to hold over 68,000 spectators make it an ideal choice for such a high-profile match.

This announcement comes as UEFA continues to rotate the final among Europe's top stadiums. The 2025 Champions League final will be held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, while the 2026 edition is set to take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
