Head coach Niko Kovač has been in charge of Borussia Dortmund for just over a month, but he is already noticing positive developments in his squad.

Defensive Stability as a Key Strength

“The most important thing is stability, both with and without the ball. Defensively, we’ve been performing very well. If you look at our last six matches, we’ve conceded only four goals, and in my opinion, two of them were self-inflicted,” Kovač explained.

“This shows that we are limiting our opponents’ chances and staying well-organized at the back. Every player is involved in defensive duties, but what I particularly like is that we are not just reacting—we are proactive, even off the ball. We try to press and put pressure on the opposition.”

Room for Growth in Attack

“There are also positive signs in attack. We cannot say we are fully satisfied yet, but overall, things are looking good. However, we still have room for improvement. The potential for growth is significant, and while I am pleased with the progress we’ve made after a month of work, I know we can push even further,” Kovač added.

Champions League Aspirations

Dortmund currently sits in tenth place in the Bundesliga, trailing the Champions League qualification spots by six points.

On Tuesday, Borussia will host Lille in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie, aiming to build on their recent improvements and take a step closer to European success.
