Official: Steven Gerrard Leaves Al-Ettifaq
English manager Steven Gerrard has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq after 18 months in charge. The former Aston Villa and Rangers boss joined the Saudi Pro League side in July 2023 and extended his contract in January 2024. However, a poor run of form, with just 5 wins in 17 league matches this season, ultimately led to his dismissal.
“Football is unpredictable, and sometimes things don’t go as we hope,” Gerrard said in a statement. “However, I leave with great respect for the club and the country. I have no doubt that the work done will bring success in the future, and I wish the team all the best for the remainder of the season.”
Gerrard also expressed gratitude for his time in Saudi Arabia, stating, “From day one, I was warmly welcomed, and I enjoyed working in a new country with a different culture. Overall, I learned a lot, and it was a positive experience both personally and for my family.”
During his tenure, Gerrard was one of the highest-paid managers in world football, earning an estimated £15 million per year.
