Bayern Munich edge Borussia Dortmund in German Super Cup

Bayern Munich have made the perfect start to the new season, beating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 to lift the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup and claim the first major trophy of the campaign.
The champions took control before half-time. New signing Nathaniel Brown opened the scoring after being picked out by Michael Olise, before the French winger doubled Bayern's advantage moments before the interval.
Borussia Dortmund came out with greater urgency after the break and gave themselves a lifeline when Fabio Silva found the net. The goal set up a tense finish, but Bayern Munich held firm to secure victory and add another piece of silverware to their collection.
Dortmund's task became even harder late on when defender Ramy Bensebaini was shown a red card for a heavy challenge on Ismael Saibari. The dismissal effectively ended the visitors' hopes of completing a comeback.
The high-profile clash also attracted plenty of attention off the pitch. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp were among those watching from the stands as Bayern Munich secured the first trophy of the new football season.
