The transfer saga surrounding Rodri appears to be nearing its conclusion, with Manchester City and Barcelona reportedly reaching an agreement in principle over the transfer of the 30-year-old Spain midfielder. According to reports in the Spanish media, the former Atlético Madrid player is set to sign a four-year contract with the Catalan giants.

The deal is understood to be worth €65 million, excluding performance-related bonuses. If completed, the move would mark a major addition to Barcelona's midfield and see Rodri return to Spanish football after establishing himself as one of the leading midfielders in world football at Manchester City.

Interestingly, Real Madrid had been considered the leading contender for Rodri for several weeks. The midfielder was reportedly viewed as a priority target by the Spanish giants, but the race took a dramatic turn in the final stages.

Rodri ultimately chose to turn down Real Madrid and commit to the project at Barcelona. The Catalan club's ambitious plans have apparently convinced the Spain international that his future lies at Camp Nou.

An official announcement is expected in the coming days, with Rodri poised to become one of Barcelona's biggest signings and a statement addition to their squad ahead of the new season.
