Argentina - Switzerland 3:1

Argentina became the final team to secure a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after overcoming a resilient Switzerland side 3-1 following extra time in a fiercely contested quarter-final.

The match remained finely balanced for long periods. Alexis Mac Allister fired Argentina into the lead before Dan Ndoye responded to bring Switzerland level, leaving the score at 1-1 after 68 minutes. The momentum appeared to swing decisively in Argentina's favour when Breel Embolo was shown a red card, reducing the Swiss to ten men. However, despite their numerical disadvantage, Switzerland defended with remarkable determination and forced the match into extra time.

With fatigue beginning to take its toll, Argentina's superior quality eventually made the difference. Julián Álvarez restored his side's advantage before Lisandro Martínez sealed the victory with a decisive third goal, sending the reigning South American giants into the final four with a 3-1 triumph.

Argentina will now face England in one of the standout fixtures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals. The highly anticipated clash is scheduled to take place on 15 July.
