Scotland - Brazil 0:3

Brazil produced a commanding display to defeat Scotland 3-0 in their final FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage match, securing first place in Group C. Inspired by a brilliant performance from Vinicius Junior and boosted by the long-awaited return of Neymar, the five-time world champions delivered a statement victory in Miami.

The match could hardly have started worse for Scotland. Under heavy pressure from the Brazilian press, defender Scott McKenna surrendered possession in a dangerous area. The loose ball was quickly recovered, and a perfectly timed pass released Vinicius Junior through on goal. The Real Madrid star made no mistake, calmly finishing to give Brazil an early lead.

Steve Clarke's side responded positively, earning several corners and enjoying spells of pressure that forced Brazil onto the defensive. For a brief moment, the South Americans thought they had doubled their advantage when Vinicius Junior found the net again. However, after an extended VAR review, the goal was ruled out due to a foul committed by the Brazilian winger during the build-up.

Despite Scotland's efforts, they were unable to reach half-time with only a one-goal deficit. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Bruno Guimaraes delivered a superb cross into the penalty area, where Vinicius Junior rose highest to head home his second goal of the evening. At 2-0, the task facing the famous Tartan Army had become significantly more difficult.

Scotland emerged after the break determined to find a way back into the contest. Scott McTominay came closest, forcing an excellent save from Alisson Becker, who once again demonstrated why he remains one of the world's elite goalkeepers.

Any hopes of a comeback were effectively ended on the hour mark. A flowing move through the centre of the pitch saw Bruno Guimaraes thread a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Matheus Cunha, and the forward coolly slotted the ball beyond Angus Gunn to make it 3-0.

The loudest cheer of the night arrived in the 75th minute when head coach Carlo Ancelotti introduced Neymar from the bench. The iconic forward was making his first appearance for Brazil in nearly three years. While his cameo did not alter the outcome, it provided an encouraging glimpse of his fitness and readiness as the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup 2026 approach.

The final whistle confirmed an emphatic victory for Brazil, who advance to the Round of 32 as Group C winners. For Scotland, the situation is far less certain. They must now rely on results elsewhere and the complex ranking of third-placed teams to keep their FIFA World Cup 2026 dream alive.
