Spain - Saudi Arabia 4:0

Spain delivered a dominant performance at the FIFA World Cup 2026, dismantling Saudi Arabia 4-0 in a match that was effectively settled before the opening half-hour had even concluded.

The reigning UEFA European Champions took complete control from the first whistle, overwhelming their opponents with relentless pressure, sharp movement and clinical finishing. By the time the first cooling break arrived, La Roja had already built an unassailable three-goal advantage.

The breakthrough came in the 10th minute. A superb cross-field delivery from Mikel Oyarzabal found Lamine Yamal unmarked at the far post, and the teenage sensation made no mistake from close range to give Spain an early lead.

Ten minutes later, the Spanish doubled their advantage following a chaotic sequence inside the penalty area. After a corner kick caused panic in the Saudi defence, the ball eventually fell to Oyarzabal, who calmly converted from point-blank range to make it 2-0.

Spain continued to carve open the opposition with ease. Shortly afterwards, Marc Cucurella won a crucial aerial duel before Dani Olmo cleverly set up Oyarzabal, who finished from close range once again to complete his brace and put the result beyond any doubt at 3-0.

The Real Sociedad forward could easily have left the pitch with a hat-trick before halftime. First, he capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais but saw his inventive outside-of-the-foot effort crash against the crossbar. Moments later, another golden opportunity went begging as he dragged his shot wide from inside the box.

Any lingering hopes of a Saudi comeback disappeared almost immediately after the restart. Following a corner kick, Cucurella unleashed a first-time strike that was parried by Al-Owais. However, the rebound ricocheted off defender Abdulelah Al-Amri Tambakti and rolled into the net for Spain's fourth goal of the evening.

The latter stages belonged to Ferran Torres, although luck continued to evade the Spanish forward. The attacker tested Al-Owais with a powerful effort from inside the area before squandering a clear one-on-one chance after being brilliantly released by Mikel Merino. Deep into stoppage time, Torres finally found the back of the net, only for celebrations to be cut short by an offside flag.
