Algeria fury over officiating: FIFA to review controversial incidents in Argentina defeat

The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has formally lodged a complaint with FIFA regarding the officiating in their 3-0 defeat against Argentina in the opening match of the World Cup. The Algerian delegation argues that referee Szymon Marciniak made several contentious decisions that adversely affected their team.

Algeria has highlighted two critical incidents from the Group J encounter. The first occurred in the 32nd minute, when Lionel Messi appeared to catch defender Aïssa Mandi high on the shin with a challenge that the Algerians argue warranted a straight red card. The second flashpoint came in the 74th minute, when Alexis Mac Allister allegedly caught Ibrahim Maza with an elbow to the face, an incident that went unpunished by the Polish official.

While football's governing body is yet to issue a public response, the defending champions are already shifting their focus to Monday's fixture against Austria. Meanwhile, Algeria face a crucial encounter on Tuesday, where victory over Jordan is likely to be essential if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
