The Netherlands national team have been dealt another significant injury setback ahead of the FIFA World Cup, with defender Jurrien Timber officially ruled out of the tournament.

The 24-year-old has failed to recover in time from a groin injury and will be unable to join Ronald Koeman's squad for football's biggest stage.

In an official statement, the Netherlands Football Association confirmed that Timber's rehabilitation has not progressed sufficiently to allow him to participate in the competition.
