Atletico Madrid - Celta 0:1

Atlético Madrid suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat against Celta Vigo despite dominating large stretches of the match at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Diego Simeone’s side fired nearly 20 shots at goal, but a combination of wasteful finishing and an inspired performance from goalkeeper Ionuț Radu left the hosts empty-handed.

The evening began badly for Atlético, who lost defensive leader José María Giménez to injury after just 19 minutes. Even so, the Madrid side continued to push forward relentlessly, pinning Celta deep inside their own half for long periods.

Chances came and went throughout the contest. Ademola Lookman came closest to breaking the deadlock when his powerful effort crashed against the crossbar, while Radu repeatedly frustrated the home side with a string of confident saves.

But football can be brutally unforgiving — and Celta Vigo punished Atlético Madrid with almost their only clear opportunity of the second half. After a costly turnover from captain Koke in midfield, striker Borja “Panda” Iglesias surged forward on the counter-attack before producing a composed finish beyond Jan Oblak to silence the stadium.

In the closing stages, Diego Simeone attempted to spark a comeback through a series of substitutions and tactical changes. The introduction of Thiago Almada added urgency, while wave after wave of crosses rained into the penalty area, but Celta held firm under immense pressure.
