FC Barcelona are now within touching distance of the La Liga title

FC Barcelona are now within touching distance of the La Liga title after a controlled 2-0 victory against Getafe, capitalising on Real Madrid’s slip earlier in the round. Following the Madrid side’s setback in Seville, Hansi Flick’s team delivered a professional performance on the road to extend their lead at the top to 11 points.

The Catalans could officially secure the title as early as the next matchday — and on current form, it feels inevitable.

As expected, the clash at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez was a physical and hard-fought contest. Barcelona were without key attacking threats Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, but still executed a clear tactical plan. The first half was tight and scrappy, with chances at a premium, until a moment of brilliance unlocked the game.

Pedri produced a sublime pass late in the half, slicing through the Getafe defence and finding Fermín López, who showed excellent composure to beat David Soria and give the visitors the lead.

Getafe maintained their aggressive approach after the break, pressing and disrupting Barcelona’s rhythm. The tension lingered deep into the second half, especially as Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski both missed opportunities to put the game beyond doubt. At the other end, Pau Cubarsí played a crucial role in preserving the clean sheet with several key defensive interventions.

Eventually, the decisive moment arrived. Marcus Rashford produced a stunning solo run, driving forward with pace and precision before finishing clinically to seal the 2-0 win.
