Dynamo Kyiv Sack Head Coach After Costly Defeat in Conference League

Dynamo Kyiv have parted ways with head coach Oleksandr Shovkovskyi following the team’s disappointing 2–0 loss to Omonia in the UEFA Europa Conference League. The club confirmed the decision on its official website, bringing an abrupt end to Shovkovskyi’s tenure after a run of four consecutive defeats this season.
In the wake of his dismissal, youth-team manager Ihor Kostyuk has been appointed as interim head coach. He will step in immediately as the club attempts to stabilise its form and recover from a turbulent start to the campaign.
Shovkovskyi had taken charge of Dynamo Kyiv in November 2023, replacing Mircea Lucescu. Despite the current struggles, the Ukrainian coach delivered a major achievement last season, guiding the club to the 2024/25 Ukrainian Premier League title. His departure marks a significant turning point for the capital side as they seek a new direction on both domestic and European fronts.
